Nashville, TN, October 4, 2021 – Crayhill Renewables LLC, a renewable energy investment platform with a focus on early-stage developer partnerships, announced today the appointment of Warren Whitson as Vice President, Transmission Analytics & Power Markets.
Crayhill Renewables is building industry-leading capabilities in transmission analytics as part of an effort to be able to inform its investments in early-stage development assets. Mr. Whitson, who will lead the transmission analytics function at Crayhill Renewables, brings fourteen years of power flow analysis experience to the platform. As Crayhill Renewables works alongside its development partners to deploy capital and provide co-development support it will leverage Mr. Whitson’s deep expertise in market forecasting and modeling, transmission planning, interconnection management, wholesale transmission projects, NERC compliance and operations, as well as FERC and market regulations.
Prior to joining Crayhill Renewables, Mr. Whitson served in various roles at Southern Company and Silicon Ranch Corporation, including leading the creation of wholesale transmission subsidiaries at Southern Power Company and standing up a new utility planning team at Silicon Ranch. Mr. Whitson’s experience spans markets across North America, includes every generating technology (as well as transmission projects), and provides a unique perspective of both an IPP and utility.“
Over the past few years, interconnection timelines have increased, interconnection upgrade costs have risen dramatically, and congestion has resulted in pockets of devastating basis and curtailment. As interconnection queues have become more crowded, interconnection processes have become more expensive, and congestion risk on renewable projects has become more prevalent, interconnection criteria has become the deciding factor in a project’s success. Therefore, it is critical to have grid data and analysis at the tip of the siting spear, helping drive siting strategy and continuing to provide support throughout the lifecycle of projects from development through operations,” stated Mr. Whitson.
“We believe the addition of Warren to our team and the buildout of inhouse interconnection systems further sets apart the Crayhill Renewables platform in providing valuable co-development expertise alongside our flexible capital” said Erick Bauman, Managing Director and co-founder at Crayhill Renewables.
